Effective rate calculator
Calculate one clearly defined statement period. Your numbers stay in your browser.
What share of volume went to charges?
Enter the corresponding volume and fees for one period. The resulting percentage describes that period's observed ratio, not a contractual rate or a future offer.
The formula
Effective rate = relevant processing charges ÷ corresponding processed volume × 100. For example, $375 in charges on $15,000 in volume produces 2.50%.
Use one consistent period and scope
Match the statement dates and include the fee categories you intentionally want to measure. A figure that includes equipment, statement, and service costs will differ from a transaction-fee-only calculation.
Refunds, reserves, adjustments, unusual one-time charges, and timing differences can distort comparisons. Don't equate this result with interchange, a quoted rate, or what another processor would charge.
What to do next
Review multiple periods if available, keep notes on unusual activity, and look at the Statement Decoder to understand fee categories. For a real purchasing decision, compare written terms, transaction mix, system dependencies, and merchant needs.
